This template is designed to provide a link to the US Department of Agriculture plants database normally to be used under the heading External links for a species or genus name or a corresponding vernacular name. This database provides a great deal of information, mostly encyclopedic about plant species found in the US. It also provides taxonomic synonyms and can be a source for common names.
Parameters

|1=– mandatory: the USDA's code, formed with capital letters and numbers- For a two-part species name, the first two letters of the genus are followed by the first two letters of the specific epithet, then often a number intended to make the code unique.
- For a genus name, the first five letters of the genus are similarly followed, if necessary, by numbers intended to make the code unique.
- A guess without any number will:
- give a unique page, though possibly not one that matches the desired name or
- indicate that no such page exists.
- In case 2, you may use the sites search box to try to find what you are looking for.
|noi=– optional: by default the linked term will be italicized. To disable italicization, set|noi=1.
