• Pokorny compares Middle High German gampen, gumpen (“to jump”) (cf. *gampaz) and පුරාතන ග්‍රීක ἀθεμβοῦσα (athemboûsa, “exuberant”), which would point to ප්‍රොටෝ-ඉන්දු-යුරෝපීය *(h₂)gʷʰemb- (“to hop, jump, frisk”).
