This template is used in the glyph origin section, similar to {{compound}}, but specifically for Hanzi compound. Use

For instance, a simple etymology of 幕 could be created with:

which evaluates to:

莫 + 巾

As elsewhere, etymologies should be referenced.

More parts

For the character classification, a “|ls=”(stands for "liushu") parameter with "i/ic/psc" could be added:

{{Han compound|莫|巾|ls=psc}}

Where i means "Ideograms", ic means "Ideogrammic compounds", psc means "Phono-semantic compounds" (形聲字／形声字).

A Phono-semantic compound is made up of two characters: phonetic one and semantic one. Mark them by using “|c1=”, “|c2=” with parameters "p" or "s":

Phono-semantic compound (形聲／形声): phonetic 莫 () + semantic 巾

Furthermore, there is the possibility to give translations of the parts by using “|t1=”, “|t2=”:

Finally, alternative representation forms can be given by using the “|alt1=”, “|alt2=” parameters, take "慕" for example:

Additional parameters

|adj=

If specified, returns an adjectival form of the liushu name, i.e. “pictographic” instead of “pictogram”.

|nocap=

If yes, converts the first letter to lower case.

|no_och= (for page title character) and |no_ochx= (for the xth component)

If specified, disables automatic Old Chinese pronunciation for the corresponding character (which is displayed by default for the title character and the phonetic component, if the character is a phono-semantic character).

|abbx= (for the xth component)

If yes, the component will be labelled as abbreviated.

|trx= (for transliteration of the xth component)

Replaces Old Chinese pronunciation with user defined pronunciation (eg. for dialectal characters).

For characters of non-Chinese origin
